Hi Embers,
Today was a grand time at the Living Room Turnout. We are thinning out the bushes to make less places for trash to accumulate. It is our hope that thinning out the bushes will also make the area more visible and will thereby deter visitors from leaving things behind. We will be back out there tomorrow morning should anyone wish to join in the fun.
Thanks,
Michael.
P. S. We will suggest to the board of directors the installation of a trash receptacle in this area as it may encourage people to use it instead of littering in our "Living Room".
Michel. THANK you so much for of your hard work and dedication, it was great working with you and Eric and Kurt last weekend, sorry I could not make it today, but am looking forward to many other work days with you, again, thank you for what you are doing!!!
Great job Michael! PC Rd. is looking good! I keep a trash bag and gloves in my car and stop at the lookout to pick up small amounts of trash, when I have a few minutes. I've also wondered about placing a trash can there but felt it could be misused by people looking for a place to dump their excess trash.
You have great dedication to this community Michael! Thanks for everything you're doing!
~Jacque
Jacque, thank you for any help you offer. I notice that you say a "small amount", however, it is my opinion that any amount at all makes a big difference. About the trash can issue, people come up here to dump at the turnouts all the time anyways, so rather than having to pick it up off the ground, I would rather have a receptacle to make things easier. It is worth a try, in any case, I think. How do you and others feel about a test run?
Jacque - thank you so much! As they say - "Many hands make light work." If we all pitch in a little bit, no one person is totally overwhelmed with the task at hand. Thank you for making the time and effort to keep this mountain the beautiful place we love so much! In the before-times, there was a big steel trash can, chained to a metal post at that turn out. I can't remember why it was removed, but there was a reason. Perhaps another community member with better memory could fill us in.....
Hi Embers,
Thank you to all who came by this weekend to make the "Living Room Cleanup" possible. And thank you for the food, water, helping hands, and some great conversation in between. How blessed I am to be surrounded by such a wonderful set of friends and family.
While on the job, we came across a bunch of litter. Sadly to say, some of this litter gave evidence of the types of some of the people who are frequenting this area. I will spare on this forum the items that were found but suffice it to say that we should be taking measures to make this turn-out a "family-friendly' place.
My suggestion and plans are to thin out all the vegetation, thereby to lessen an easy way for "ne'er -do-wells" to hide discarded "trash", and also to make the area not such an easy hideout for undesirables such as these.
In any case, here are some pics of the progress.

Oops, thanks to Josh M for his hard work today also, Josh is someone who does not live up here, but joined Micheal and helped with the beautiful work done today, THANK YOU JOSH!!!!
Thank you all so much for your hard work. Painted Cave Rd has never looked this good!!!!
Thank you so much, Jenny, and remember that your part along with everyone else's is what has brought our road to this awesome condition. Truly a team labor of love.
Also, a big shout out to Phil and Ina Britain for bringing their chipper to the rescue this morning in cleaning this weekend's pile. And on a holiday to top it off!
By the way, I think it noteworthy to mention that whatever role a person plays in the Mountain Ember Team system, we are all to be aware that we ALL have played a part in the improvement of our community and roads. The grunt work would not be possible without the administrative system that supports it. Furthermore, I am sending a shout out to the community as a whole that we need everyone's input and point of view on how we can improve our team and issues that need to be dealt with. EVERYONE here is important to our happy survival. So please, everyone, do not hesitate in getting in on our communal dialog!
