Hi All! We had quite a lively round of phone calls yesterday regarding the camper with the propane cookstove on PC Rd. yesterday. She had been there for a few days. Many called different resources, and got many different answers. Calls to the Sheriff and the County Fire Dept. were directed to call 911. 911 said that open flames were okay during the day, but not at night (???)... The Forest Service said that propane fueled stoves were okay, but not camping. So frustrating.
Nic and I went by Station 41 this afternoon - this is what we were told. Yes, propane stoves are allowed (a new addition). People are allowed to camp or 'recreate' in established campsites or "general use areas" for up to 14 days. As far as the Forest Service is concerned - Painted Cave Rd. is apparently a "general use area". Our road is not really in their jurisdiction. The road and the roadsides seem to be County jurisdiction, so there are no clear, established rules. Someone else is going to follow up with the Sheriff on Monday. The ultimate goal is to get everyone on the same page, with some sort of agreement of what is okay or not okay as far as the law is concerned.
Here is a blurry picture of the ordinance posted at Station 41.
Thanks for the info Jessica And for getting this sorted out. Please post the follow up info when you receive it.
