We have developed a relationship with this particular rattlesnake. It has spent a lot of time exploring and hiding from the heat around our house. It went to frantically rattling from a distance to let us know where it is, to a simple, single 'cht' as we walk by so we know. It had let me know it was under the house, while I was doing laundry today. I heard a 'cht' about 10' behind me. I thanked it for letting me know, and I told it I was glad it found a place to escape the heat. For some reason it came out and is now sitting 2' from the dryer. It's a crap shoot whether we will have clean socks in the morning, but it was patient and placid enough to let us take this picture.... Sure is handsome.

You are too brave! Thanks for sharing and reminding us all that we can live respectfully with the rattlers.
We have 2 that we know of, (probably another 1-2, as these look different to the others we have seen), this one, and another that chills out by the Chicken Shack, the other one does the same thing.
Jessica went to go in to collect eggs, and it was about a foot away from the door, he/she just looked at her and went back to relaxing.
Nice to have friends like these here around us.
