I've been running a PWS on upper Kinevan Ranch for last 7 years. (KCASANTA233)
... and have a s*#t load of accumulated data. Even without crunching data, over the past 25 years up here climate/conditions have changed. (understatement)
Over the years, PWS stations have come and gone - like the Gun Club, Rosario Park,
a couple in the Trout Club, West Camino Cielo, 2 in Painted Cave.
Would like to connect with "Painted Cave Crest" (KCASANTA2598) - any help there?
Interested in issues like Internet connectivity (groan) - appears to be better than mine - perhaps a Sat uplink? or a better "line of sight"?
WunderGround used to have better connectivity between public and stations, so that's
why I'm posting in this forum.
Regrading recent station accuracy on upper Kinevan - my rain gauge is down and needs fix/replacement (working on it)
Hi cabdsan98, our PWS is Painted Cave Crest. It's nice to connect with fellow weather enthusiasts up here. We're currently on Impulse internet with a decent line of sight to the radio antenna near the monument. We get hit with regular strong North wind, and also get pummeled by South winds during the winter. Nic's station will get a better South wind reading, and I think our rain catch is generally more accurate. We get some intermittent issues with the station randomly going offline, but I'm guessing that's the station and probably not Wunderground.
Cool, nice to know about the silicone spray, will have to try that, we started this WS to monitor fire weather, I believe the more we have, the better picture we could have,
so, call me, (not now) @ 805-570-9025 sometime in the next few days so we can talk
Hey NIC (KCASANTA214) Yes, Wunderground is "sketchy"at times. Location is so important.
... and there's differing micro-climates which distort general view on how weather is here up on the "Pass".
Sorry for late-night post, but important. Learned a tip tonight re: rain sensors and oblique wind-driven rainfall : light coating of silicone spray. But that doesn't help you when the rain literraly goes uphill.
Yes - would like to talk
Hey there, our PWS is Painted Cave (KCASANTA214), been up for the past 8 years, Painted Cave Crest is in the interior of the community (newer, the last year or two) while we are straight on with a southern exposure which leads to weird rain total numbers (the rain goes UP hill during storms from the south, and goes over the rain collector)
Would be interested in talking to you
