Can anyone identify this fungi, if that's even what it is? It looks like a bit like an alien egg! :-) I've seen them popping up along the dirt paths on PC Rd around Laurel Springs. First I've seen them.
Mushroom Id's are easy to get wrong if you can't see the part that will (at least in this case) make it more than a guess. Add to this photo a photo of a longitudinal (vertical) cross section and it would be possible to make a more certain identification. As it is 'puffball' is a possibility. Certainty would be found in the slicing.
Next time I see another one I'll do a cross section and post the image. To be continued....

they look like they are about to burst open oozing w baby rattlesnakes. 😬 pretty neat though, they are edible too.
